Our apartment is situated in the heart of the Flaine ski area, providing an excellent opportunity to experience the charm and excitement of the mountains. At an altitude of 2,500 meters and facing Mont Blanc, Flaine ski resort offers a perfect mountain getaway for skiing or snowboarding enthusiasts. Whether you prefer piste or freeride, ski touring or cross-country skiing, nordic skiing, or adapted skiing, Flaine has something for everyone. With 64 ski runs and 24 ski lifts, Flaine's ski area is perfect for exploring a variety of snow sports, whether it's skiing on marked runs or following the mountain's natural contours to experience the excitement of freeride. Flaine is connected to the Grand Massif ski area, making it a great destination with two snowsports areas in one. In this larger-than-life playground, the word "happiness" takes on its true meaning.
Skiing in Flaine grants access to the Grand Massif ski area, one of France's largest. With up to 265km of diverse terrain, it's an ideal destination for families, beginners, and even intermediates. Imagine skiing down wide-open bowls or gliding along tree-lined runs with your little ones in tow. Visitors love that most accommodations are within walking distance or a short bus ride to the lifts, making it easy to hit the slopes quickly. The north-facing bowl above the town is known for maintaining its snow cover, and skiers can drop in between the pistes. Snowboarders won't be disappointed either, as Flaine's ski resort boasts the biggest terrain park in the Grand Massif ski area, complete with a quarter pipe, tables, rails, and a boardercross course.
The best time to ski in Flaine depends on your personal preferences. The slopes are ideal for families, with beginner slopes, a great ski school, and childcare facilities. However, it can be quite busy during peak periods around Christmas and February half-term. If you are looking for a quieter and more affordable skiing experience, January or March may be the best time to visit Flaine. Though January may be chilly, it offers excellent snow conditions. On the other hand, March brings longer and sunnier days to enjoy skiing. Flaine's snow conditions have an excellent reputation. It is one of France's snowiest ski resorts, with a resort altitude of 1,600m and plenty of skiing opportunities above 2,000m. The ski season runs from mid-December to mid-April, with the best snow conditions in Flaine found in late January into February. Even in March and April, there is still ample opportunity for great skiing, with over 50% of Flaine's pistes serviced with top-notch snow cannons.
While skiing is undoubtedly a popular activity, Flaine has a plethora of snow sports and activities to offer. From dog sledding, snowmobiling, and tobogganing, to walking, snowshoeing, or trail running on snow, the list is endless. You can embark on these activities during the day or as an après-ski activity to discover the beauty of our snow-covered mountains for a timeless experience!
